Fr. Peter: The term immaculate conception is problemmatic to me for the following reasons: 1)If the Virgin Mary were conceived immaculately, what happened to the gift free will or decision making ability given to all of us beginning in the garden? Didn't she accepted the responsibiliy of becoming the Mother of God, by Choice? I don't think God forces his will on any of us. She could have said "No".
2)Virgin Mary is the celebrated conception of Anna. As all of us are born under the condition of sin, (missing the mark,)we will die.
The wages of sin are death and destruction.
The feast day of Mary's falling asleep is known in the Orthodox Church as the "Dormition."
3)If the Virgin Mary were born sinless, why did she die? Why would we need Jesus? Wouldn't that make her equal to God? (Jesus did not need purification or Baptism). And as Fr. Nick Apostola pointed out, He was the only sinless one and mediator for us sinners.
4)She was born in the image of God and had to have lived a pure and pious life, growing in likeness or How could Jesus have dwelt in her Virginal womb?
